Switching Gears Mid-Career? Thanks to their skills and breadth of work experience, CPAs are well-equipped to move fluidly between the worlds of business/industry, government, and public practice. However, it always helps to have a resource to navigate the ins and outs of a new niche. TSCPA members have an ever-growing choice of online communities in which to make their new home. At the website homepage (tscpa.org/), mouse over the Resource Center button along the horizontal menu and click Public Practice Center, Business/Industry Center and/or Member Communities to explore.
Raising the Profession’s Profile in Your CommunityAutumn is a great time for individual CPAs and their employers and firms to promote the profession in their communities. Here are five ways that you can boost the profession’s profile in your community and make a difference where you live: 1. Donate goods or services as a silent auction item for a local school’s annual fundraising effort. 2. Speak to a group of students about the opportunities available to them when they choose a career in accounting. 3. Participate in the “Adopt-a-Highway” program, and do your part to keep Texas beautiful. 4. Sponsor a youth football team. 5. Purchase children’s books or school supplies for a school serving an economically disadvantaged neighborhood or community. Membership Recruitment It’s a bird, it’s a plane…it’s a super chapter challenge! Your chapter has an opportunity to win recognition and a fun challenge prize during the 2009 campaign. And, you can help TSCPA spread the word about membership in a social media blitz. Members who share the message and new members who join using a special promotional code will be entered in prize drawings for some SUPER prizes. Visit the website for more details about welcoming new heroes to our Super League of Colleagues. http://www.tscpa.org/general/Membership/Recruit2009.asp Practice Management Institute
